Associate Engineer – Mechanical Design

Job Context/Purpose

As a Mechanical Engineer, your role involves creating mechanical components using CAD software, conducting tests to validate designs, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This position demands creativity, technical expertise, and good knowledge in aerospace, electrical, software, systems, materials science, control systems, manufacturing, and reliability engineering disciplines to create innovative, high-performance UAVs in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

Team Responsibilities

  • Mechanical System Design: Design mechanical components and systems for UAVs, including airframes, propulsion systems, and payload integration.

  • Engineering Calculations: Perform first-principles and hand calculations to validate design decisions.

  • 3D Modeling & Drafting: Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.

  • Structural & Thermal Analysis: Conduct analyses (structural, thermal, modal, fatigue) to ensure UAV reliability, performance, and compliance.

  • Prototyping: Develop and build prototypes for new UAV designs, including hands-on fabrication and validation.

  • Testing: Perform ground and flight tests to validate design concepts and improvements.

  • Data Analysis: Analyze test data, identify issues, and iterate on designs to enhance functionality, safety, and durability.

  • Cross-Functional Integration: Work closely with electrical, propulsion, and aerodynamics engineers to ensure seamless system integration.

  • Design Reviews: Participate in design reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with project managers, suppliers, and clients to ensure design requirements and timelines are met.


Technical Documentation

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation including specifications, drawings, test reports, BOMs, and manuals.

  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant aerospace and industry standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.


Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (required).

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related discipline (preferred).


Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical, product, or machine design, preferably in aerospace, UAV, automotive, or robotics domains.


Technical Competencies

  • Strong proficiency in structural analysis, CAD modeling, and thermal system design for aerospace/mechanical components.

  • Ability to perform engineering simulations and interpret results for design optimization.

  • Understanding of material selection, manufacturing methods, and GD&T.


Skills Required

  • Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks, ANSYS, and exposure to PLM systems (Siemens Teamcenter, Windchill, or similar).

  • Knowledge of DFMA, tolerance stack-up, and mechanical reliability principles.

  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools, instrumentation setups, and test rig development (added but optional—can remove if not needed).
